 TLC Dog Walkers’ Code of Conduct

For All TLC-Recognised Dog Walkers

At TLC Dog Walking, we are dedicated to the highest standards of animal care, professionalism, and client trust. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all dog walkers seeking to become TLC Recognised.

By signing this agreement, you confirm that you understand and agree to uphold the following principles and standards at all times.

1. Welfare First

  • The safety, wellbeing, and happiness of every dog in my care is my top priority.

  • I will never use aversive training methods, physical punishment, or intimidation.

  • I will always walk dogs in a safe, controlled, and positive manner using kind, reward-based handling.

  • I will ensure dogs are not over-exercised, especially puppies, elderly dogs, or those with medical issues.

2. Professional Conduct

  • I will conduct myself with honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of my work.

  • I will be punctual, reliable, and communicate promptly with clients and team leaders.

  • I will not gossip about clients, colleagues, or other walkers.

  • I will represent TLC Dog Walking in a positive and respectful manner at all times, including on social media.

3. Dog Safety & Handling

  • I will only walk dogs using approved, well-fitted equipment (no choke, prong, or e-collars).

  • Dogs will be walked on lead unless off-lead permission has been explicitly granted by the owner and assessed as safe.

  • I will never walk more than the agreed number of dogs at one time (as per TLC policy).

  • I will perform risk assessments before each walk and ensure the environment is safe and appropriate.

  • I will always carry leads, poo bags, and first aid essentials.

  • Dogs will be transported safely using crates, harnesses, or seat belts that meet legal and welfare standards.

4. Confidentiality & Data Protection

  • I will respect client privacy at all times.

  • I will not share personal information, home addresses, or security details with anyone outside the TLC team.

  • I will comply with GDPR regulations and TLC’s data handling policies.

5. Health, Hygiene & Safety

  • I will maintain good personal hygiene and ensure dogs’ equipment and transport are clean and sanitised.

  • I will not walk dogs showing signs of contagious illness or parasites (e.g., kennel cough, fleas, parvovirus).

  • I will report any accidents, injuries, or incidents immediately to my team leader and the client.

  • I will ensure dogs have access to fresh water and adequate rest during and after walks.

6. Communication & Accountability

  • I will communicate openly and honestly with clients and team leaders.

  • I will notify my team leader promptly if I am unable to complete a walk for any reason.

  • I will provide accurate updates to clients about their dog’s walks and behaviour.

  • I understand that failure to follow this Code may result in suspension or removal from TLC recognition.

7. Training & Continuous Development

  • I agree to maintain and improve my knowledge of canine behaviour, safety, and welfare.

  • I will attend TLC training sessions, briefings, or courses as required.

  • I will actively support the TLC mission to promote kind, science-based handling and training.

8. Representation of the TLC Brand

  • I understand that being “TLC Recognised” is a privilege and professional endorsement.

  • I will wear or carry TLC branding when appropriate and act as a trusted ambassador of TLC Dog Walking.

  • I will uphold the TLC values: Trust, Loyalty, and Care — for every dog, client, and colleague.
