BASIC SETUP (Do this first)
I’ve completed the Wix SEO Setup / SEO Wiz
I’ve connected my site to Google Search Console
My website is published (yes, double check 😅)
👉 This makes sure your site can actually be found and indexed by Google
🔍 KEYWORDS (What people actually search)
I know what my customers would type into Google
I’m using normal phrases (e.g. “dog walker Bradford”)
I’ve used those words naturally on my pages
👉 Keywords help Google match your site to searches
HOMEPAGE (Your main message)
My homepage clearly says what I do
My homepage clearly says where I am
I’ve used a clear heading (H1)
I’ve added a short intro with keywords

👉 Your homepage tells Google what your business is about
ABOUT PAGE (Build trust)
I’ve introduced myself properly
I’ve explained my experience

👉 Trust and credibility help both customers and search engines
SERVICES PAGE (Where you get found)
Each service has its own section
I’ve used clear headings (e.g. “Dog Walking”)
I’ve described what’s included
I’ve mentioned my location naturally
I’ve included keywords without overdoing it
👉 Clear service descriptions help Google match you to searches
📍 LOCATION (Very important for local businesses)
I’ve clearly listed the areas I cover
I’ve used phrases like:
“dog walker in [town]”
“pet sitter near [area]”
My location appears on more than one page
👉 Local SEO helps you show up nearby [
🖼️ IMAGES (Yes, these matter)
My images have proper file names
✅ dog-walking-bradford.jpg
❌ IMG123.jpg
I’ve added alt text to images

TECHNICAL BITS (Don’t skip these)
My site works well on mobile
My site loads quickly
My pages have simple names (URLs)
My layout is clear and easy to use
👉 Google looks at speed, structure and usability
📞 CONTACT (Make it easy!)
My phone/email is easy to find
I’ve added a contact form
My location is listed
I’ve included opening hours (if relevant)
👉 If people can’t contact you, they’ll leave
TRUST SIGNALS (This gives you an edge)
I’ve added at least 1–2 reviews
My info is consistent everywhere
My site looks professional and clear
👉 Trust helps improve visibility and conversions
ONGOING (The bit everyone ignores…)
I update my website occasionally
I add new photos/content now and then
I keep everything accurate
👉 SEO builds over time — it’s not a one‑off job
Simple rule to remember
If someone lands on your website and can instantly answer:
What do you do?
Where are you?
How do I contact you?
👉 Then Google can too.
A note on business and professionalism
This guide assumes one thing: you are running a business, not a hobby.
Pet care is more than a passion—it’s your livelihood, and it deserves the same professionalism, planning, and respect as any other business. Treating it like “just a job for fun” won’t get you the results or freedom you want.
You are allowed to:
Charge enough to make your business sustainable
Set and enforce clear boundaries with clients
Expect respect from clients, peers, and the wider pet care industry
Take your work seriously, even when others don’t
Build a business that supports you, not just every pet and client
Professional success starts with self-respect—and pet care businesses built on self-respect thrive for the long term.
