Intro Post (Post This First)
🐾 FREE 5-Day Confident Puppy Walks Challenge 🐾
Just got a puppy? Or planning those first proper walks?
Over the next 5 days, I’ll be sharing simple steps to help your puppy feel confident, calm and safe on their early adventures.
Perfect for puppies under 8 months.
Comment “PUPPY” below if you’re joining in and I’ll tag you in each post.
Let’s build great walking habits from the start 🐶
Day 1 – The World Is Big
🐾 Day 1 – Let Them Observe
For puppies, the outside world can be overwhelming.
New sounds. New smells. Traffic. People. Dogs.
Today’s Action:
Instead of focusing on distance, let your puppy:
Pause
Watch
Sniff
Take things in
Confidence grows when puppies feel safe to observe.
Short and positive beats long and stressful.
How did your puppy react to today’s walk?
Day 2 – Loose Lead Starts Early
🐾 Day 2 – Don’t Let Pulling Become a Habit
Puppies don’t automatically know how to walk on a loose lead — they learn from repetition.
Today’s Action:
The moment the lead goes tight:
Stop moving
Wait for slack
Then continue
Even young puppies can begin learning that pulling doesn’t move them forward.
Calm consistency now prevents bigger problems later.
Did you notice how quickly they adjusted?
Day 3 – Reward the Check-Ins
🐾 Day 3 – Teach Them to Check Back With You
One of the best habits you can build early is your puppy choosing to look back at you.
Today’s Action:
Every time your puppy looks at you on a walk:
Say “yes” (or your chosen marker)
Give a small treat or gentle praise
You’re teaching them that staying connected pays off.
This builds future recall and focus.
How often did they check in today?
Day 4 – Calm Around Other Dogs
🐾 Day 4 – Not Every Dog Is a Playmate
It’s tempting to let puppies greet every dog they see — but this can create frustration and over-excitement later.
Today’s Action:
Practise walking past one dog at a comfortable distance.
Reward calm behaviour
Keep moving
Don’t force greetings
Calm exposure builds social skills far better than constant interaction.
How did your puppy manage today?
Day 5 – Keep It Short & Sweet
🐾 Day 5 – Quality Over Quantity
Puppies don’t need long walks.
They need positive experiences.
Today’s Action:
Aim for:
A shorter walk
One calm training focus
End on a success
Building good habits early makes adolescence much easier.
Well done if you’ve taken part this week 👏

A Note on The Dog House, Professionalism & Purpose
This space is written on one clear assumption:
you are a professional, not a casual pet lover with a lead and some spare time.
The Dog House exists because pet care, when done properly, is skilled work. It involves responsibility, judgement, boundaries, risk management, and decision-making — often under pressure and without applause.
Caring deeply does not mean operating loosely.
In fact, the more you care, the more structure you need.
You are allowed to:
• Treat your role as a profession, not a favour
• Expect clients to respect your time, policies, and expertise
• Put systems in place that protect your energy as well as your income
• Talk openly about boundaries, burnout, and business realities
• Acknowledge that loving animals does not mean tolerating poor behaviour from people
• Build a business that fits around your life, not one that consumes it
The Dog House is not about being harsh, cynical, or closed-off.
It is about being clear, grounded, and realistic.
Clarity reduces conflict.
Structure reduces stress.
Professionalism protects everyone — including the animals.
This space is here to support you in doing this work well, ethically, and sustainably, for the long term.
Because pet care businesses built on clarity and self-respect don’t just get by — they last.
